Friday’s Flow: Something to Ponder this Weekend

by darla on October 17, 2008

It is you that pervades this universe, and this universe exists in you. Your true nature is pure Consciousness. Don’t be small-minded. — Ashtavakra Gita (800-400BCE), India

The Ashtavakra Gita or the Song of Ashtavakra is an Advaita Vedanta scripture. Many teachers and mystics held it in high regard. Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, a respected mystic of 19th century India, held great respect for its teachings.

Does your freedom already exist inside of you?

Does your freedom already exist inside of you?

According to this ancient text, one is free once one realizes it. Dorothy, with her red shoes and yellow brick road, learned this when Glinda the Good Witch told her, “You don’t need to be helped any longer. You’ve always had the power to go back to Kansas.” “Why didn’t you tell her?” Scarecrow asked. “Because she wouldn’t have believed me. She had to learn it for herself.”

Imagine you had your own pair of ruby slippers. What power would they give you? Are you free and just need to realize it?

Hi,
My name is Tia and I am an editor at Opposing Views. I came across your site, liked what I read, and wanted to introduce us because we both write about health issues.
Opposingviews.com is a debate site where experts go head-to-head on many topics. I think you might be interested in our debate “Does Yoga Harm Your Body?” which can be found at: http://www.opposingviews.com/questions/does-yoga-harm-your-body
The experts in our Health section include such names as Shirley Sahrmann and Dr. Omri Sitton.
I believe that you and your visitors will appreciate this debate and might want to weigh in with votes or comments. If you like our site, we would appreciate it if you would write about us or give us a link to the debate at:
http://www.opposingviews.com/questions/does-yoga-harm-your-body
You can create a profile page giving readers information about you and links to your site. Or, if it is easier, I can do this for you. In the next couple of weeks we will be adding a blogosphere section to each debate in which we will directly feature outside sites like yours.
Thanks for taking a minute to have a look at what we are doing. Let me know if you have any questions or recommendations for experts or debates.
Sincerely,
Tia

Excellent. I wonder how many people agree with this? That we inherently hold power within ourselves and that most of us just need to realize it and access it. Or is power outside of us to be taken from someone else or some other thing?
